Victory for Equal Rights
In the past week, the number of states that recognize all Americans’ right to marry someone of their choice regardless of gender has doubled: Iowa and Vermont have both joined the ranks.

I can’t wait until this kind of thing causes a Constitutional full faith and credit shitstorm. The fireworks will be fun to watch, in any case.

I’m surprised that it hasn’t already. All these newly married folks can’t all be staying put in their own states.

Nate Silver is predicting that, if the trend continues, the last state to grant marriage rights to gays will be Mississippi in 2024. Silver, you might remember, is the genius behind the FiveThirtyEight.com website that established such a good record for itself by accurately predicting most of the various outcomes of the 2008 elections.

I wonder if it will happen that way, or if the federal courts will be forced to step in like in Loving v. Virginia. In any case, I’m pretty sure it’s just a matter of continued pressure applied over time.
